National Junior Honor Society is an organization that recognizes 5 ideals: citizenship,character, leadership, scholarship and service. Students must participate in activities that show evidence of these criteria. The following is a brief description of each quality:
Citizenship:Â Students must show involvement in the community (school,religious setting, town, state, etc.)Â Students need to participate in two activities.
Character: NJHS students should follow the code of behavior in the school setting. Disciplinary referrals can be grounds for dismissal from the organization.
Leadership: Students need to show that they have guided a group of students or another individual. Elected office positions in school, tutoring positions, Boy Scout/Girl
Scout events that lead younger troops will satisfy this category. The activity can happen periodically or it may just occur on one occasion.
Scholarship: Â Students must maintain a 90 average each quarter.
Service:Â All students must complete 20 hours of volunteer work.
