The Art Curriculum at Curtis Corner Middle School is based on the National Visual Arts Standards. The focus of the curriculum is to build a broad base of knowledge in art through the exploration of the principles and elements of designs. Art history examples are part of each lesson. Creative problem solving skills are emphasized.
Areas of focus:
Seventh Grade:
- Value Scales
- Creating the illusions of form (three-dimensions) on paper (two dimensions).
- Creating the illusion of depth of space – beginning perspective
- Color theory
- Painting techniques
Eighth Grade:
- Creating visual compositions using the principles and elements of design
- Abstract and analytical spacial thinking emphasized
- Working with form and space
- Exploration of types of sculpture
