A huge thank you to all the chaperones who made yesterday's field trip such a great success.

During science class today students were asked to write some brief comments about the trip.
Here are a few samples:

""It was an awesome trip.....going to climb it again some time.... it wasn't hiking it was rock climbing"

"...very fun on the way up.  It was the most rewarding when I didn't realize I was high up and I turned around and there was an amazing view.  You made it sound like it was easier than it really was."

"It was awesome."

"Yesterday was the best trip ever period."

"It was really slippery...would have been more fun if it hadn't been so wet"

"like: the challenge, the spring, the summit, the weather, the climb; dislike: the mud and slipping and time on the summit was short"

"...navigating the rocks was really fun in the beginning... It was a great experience thought it was nothing like I pictured it and nothing like you described it."

"It was great a bit more climbing than implied."

"The trip was fun but tuff."

"Best field trip yet but you said it would be easy."

"OMG it was really fun...some parts were really muddy but that's what gave the trip character."

(I really don't recall ever saying the hike was easy.  Maybe the word "rigorous" = easy in middle school language?)

My apologies again to the athletes and coaches who's games/meet were rescheduled 2x as a result of the trip.

Wednesday
Sept 28
So much for "predicted inclement weather".
I sent a paper home with students today describing what to wear and what to pack for Mount Monadnock.
Thank you to all the chaperones who are planning to join us.
It seems that switching the date of the trip allowed us to pick up a few additional adults!
Also the lab paper on density is due Friday (extended from Weednesday).

Monday Sept 26
The field trip has been rescheduled due to predicted inclement weather.
The new date is Tuesday Oct. 4 (this has always been the "rain date").
Groups will be announced on Wednesday.  A packing list will go home on Friday.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused for any chaperones.  We do apprecaite your help.

Also: Lab Paper on density is due Wednesday. (might get finished in class)

Sept 20
Quiz was today, Field Trip forms were due today.

Sept 19
My parent connect grades were updated Friday at noon.
Sorry for any confusion.

Monadnock forms are due Wednesday.  Chaperones go free!

There is a handout from class today that some students need to finish tonight (Monday night).  It involves a bar graph.

There will be an 8 question quiz on Wednesday on mass, volume, and distance.

Sept 14, 2011
"Measuring Lines in mm and cm" will be handed out today (Weds) in class.  It is due Thursday.

Please note, re: Parent Connect and Grades.  Sometimes I enter assignments one to three days before I enter the individual student grades for the assignment.  If there is no grade it is not a zero.  If a student didn't complete an assignment, it will show up as a zero.

Sept 13, 2011
There is a field trip planned for the entire eighth grade.  We are going to hike Mount Monadnock in southern New Hampshire.  This is a moderately challenging hike with spectacular scenery and views.

The date of the trip is Wednesday Sept. 28.
Rain date October 4.

We will be leaving school early: 6:45 am,
 returning late: 5:30 pm.

The cost is $32
(financial aide is available upon request).

Permission slips will be handed out to students  Tuesday Sept 13.  Due Wednesday Sept. 21.
Wednesday
Sept 7, 2011
Lab Safety Quiz on Thursday Sept 8.  Does not count for a grade.
Also, lab safe crossword due Thursday.
