Summer Reading Packet - Due on the first day of school in September
Summer reading packets were shared and reviewed in all classes in June.  Packets were sent home in report card envelopes. The South Kingstown public libraries sent a representative in to all classes to talk about ways to keep up with summer reading. Packets are available in all S.K. public libraries and in the main office of CCMS.

Summer Reading packets will be considered "on time" if they are turned in on or before Wednesday, September 7th. - The second day of school. Technically, they were due on the first day of school.

A reminder that students must be reading 30 minutes a day until they reach their quarter requirement of four books. Summaries must be signed by parents/guardians. I encourage you to have discussions about the books your child is reading.
Necap testing  - students should be carrying their ind. reading books to all testing blocks.

FRIDAY: All classes will complete their final drafts in class. These drafts on the poem we looked at in class have already been rough drafted, but need to have one last edit. This written response to a poem is a paragraph in length. It will be collected at the end of class and graded. All students are expected to have their rough drafts with them on Friday in class.

Retakes for the open note subject/predicate quiz will be given this Thursday, October 20th during learning center and again during lunch. Students are responsible for making arrangements to attend one of the retake sessions. Only students who are absent on Thursday will be given another time to schedule the retake.
Extra help will be available tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 18th - right after school.

All classes today - Reviewed the elements of fiction with a handout provided.
These 8 terms need to be studied and reviewed nightly for homework.

All classes: Began Personal Narrative Unit. Shared a sample of good student writing and discussed the planning involved for this writing assignment. Students brainstormed at least 2 experiences in their lives that they may wish to write about. A packet covering this writing was handed out in class and it will stay in classroom portfolios as support throughout this unit.
A final copy typed personal narrative will be assigned at the end of this writng unit.
Please check back for important due dates as students work on their planning, drafting, and editing.
